All Lit with the Rifa eX Pro 66 Kit
Sometimes trying different equally simple approaches to lighting can have a distinct effect on the mood of the image. Here are 4 examples all using the same lights. The Rifa eX Pro 66 Kit combines a 750W max Rifa quick setup softlight with a 250W focusable Pro-light. Most commonly used for interview lighting, the combination of the soft key / fill quality of the Rifa, and the hard light spot to flood abilities of the Pro, are perfect for lighting our sculpture easily with a number of options. |

![]() Treating the background can help create a sense of separation
Here a Pro-light, with barn doors creating a horizontal slash, lightens a narrow area on the background, using simple contrast to provide separation. The Rifa in close, from a 90 degree angle, keeps its spill from washing out the background. |

Color in the background
Rifa is in the same 90 degree positon, Prolight's beam & barn doors are widened to light the background, and a day blue gel is added for color. |
Lighting from an Uncommon Angle For this shot, the Rifa is in a 3/4 position from behind the sculpture. As you can see, the shoulder, hair, and edge of the face are lit. The fill light that is causing the gentle glow on the rest of the face is bounced reflection from the light hitting the pages of the book. As a result, the light imitates the natural conditions that would exist for someone reading a book. Lighting from a realistic angle like this helps bring out the subtle personality characteristics that the sculptor brought to the work. It captures another part of the artwork. It may not show every detail, scratch, or chip, but it does effectively relay the spirit of the sculpture. |
