Lighting with Lowel Ego
|
The flattering output of the Lowel Ego makes it perfect for soft lit head shot portraits, video talking head interviews &
podcasts. There’s no harsh camera flash to distract the subject. |

Portrait & Video Messaging |
- When shooting closeup portraits or video
messages, set the subject in a basic pose
and decide which side of the camera to place
the Ego on. Often one side will look better
than the other, based on the features of the
subjects face.
- For a more dramatic & contrasty look, try
using the Ego alone. Move the light along the
arc shown on the left to see the differences
between lighting more from the front vs from
the side and find the placement that suits you
best.
- If you decide you want a more even light-
ing, add the Bounce Reflector Card from the
opposite side of the light as shown on the
right. Experiment with moving the reflector in
as close as possible without it being in the
shot.
Note: There is a 1/4-20 screw thread hole in
the underside of the ego lamp socket housing
that will accomodate a small tabletop tripod
which can also be used for this purpose.
It is not necessary to raise the position of the
bounce reflector card to match the light.
By tilting the Ego, either with its rear dial or
all the way forward so it's front diffuser rests
on the books, the light output will point
towards the reflector card and be bounced as
fill light to the object.
