Been There. Lit That.

As a youth Eric always slept with the light on. He wanted to be ready to capture the
monsters under his bed, just in case they came out for a stroll. Influenced by, "Where The
Wild Things Are," and "Calvin and Hobbes," EricÕs imagination always took him to far away
places where no one else could see (& trouble no one else could get into). It's no wonder Eric
grew up to become an image hunter, capturing the images in his head and putting them to work in film.
After graduating from the design program at Syracuse University Eric moved to Los Angeles. He worked in design and motion graphics, before devoting his full efforts to his love of film and photography. This led him to the Prestigious American Film Institute and a master degree in Cinematography. |
After graduating from AFI in 2006 Eric has created a body of work that is both visually lush and
technically accomplished, continuing to find that magical realism in all his image hunting projects.
In his photography work, Eric specializes in cinematic and eye catching portrait work for commercial
and editorial projects. In Film Eric has just completed cinematography on his second feature length
documentary, entitled "Truth in Numbers?" a story about Wikipedia. He is gearing up to shoot a
narrative feature next.

Lighting Documentaries & Stills |
|
Equipment Used: In my documentary work I use two Lowel Rifa eX 88's (with daylight fluorescent heads), a Fresnel 650 and a Joker Bug. In my still photography work I used strobe units, mixed in with the Rifa's. I am a cinematographer and photographer working out of Los Angeles. Yet because my work is extremely varied and involves a great deal of traveling, I need a quality light that is extremely versatile. The Lowel Rifa provides that for me and emits a beautiful quality of light as well. I recently used the Rifa 88 on two documentary features, and a still photo shoot. One documentary entitled "love limits" (www.lovelimits.com) was shot in upstate New York. The other, entitled "Truth In Numbers? The Wikipedia story" I shot all over the country. Because I am traveling for all of my shooting, the rifa supplies me with an all in one light kit that is lightweight, quick to set up and gives beautiful results. Because of the new rifa exchange system i can use the new daylight fluorescent bulbs, supplanting the need to gel the lights and giving me higher production value. My Rifas have been on countless flights and stand up to the rigors of travel amazingly well, and survived countless "inspections" by the TSA (anyone would cringe at how they "repack" everything back into the light kit, yet the lights survive!). |

In my still photography work the Rifa's also serve as a great supplemental light to the strobes,
and sometimes on closeups as a key light when I want their sculpted look.
I recently used the Rifas in my shoot for the Thomas Chase Hairdressing in Santa Monica to fill in the background, when the strobes wouldn't stretch far enough. In all, whatever im shooting I always have the Rifa's with me. |
